Also called "Soap Stone", is mined outside of the town of Kisii un Western Kenya near the shores of Lake Victoria.
The Gusii and Abigussi tribes hand carve each piece using knives and other hand made tools, before sanding and polishing each piece.
The stones colour can vary from white, pink, brown, yellow or black so each piece is dyed before the patterns are carved.
The sales of these carvings bring valuable employment to the area where most households are involved in some form in the production process.
